HOW TO BUILD A CHOPPER COURSES WITH Chuck Sheridan

Chuck started teaching how to build a chopper students 10 years ago in 2000.

This knowledge was scarce at that time, and the few guys doing it were not particularly "friendly" about sharing what they did know.

At that time a 180 rear tire was the biggest tire you could get, and the 96 cubic inch S&S engine was the biggest engine you could get! It was virtually impossible for just anyone to learn how to build a chopper at that time.

Chuck's workshop materials in 2000 were produced with the shop supervisor at Chillicothe Harley Davidson - an ace mechanic named “Dog” who had the “PHD” certification from the factory and a lifetime of experience in shops and custom chopper building.

Another master mechanic - John Schumacher - helped teach the first 5 engine building workshops at Redline Chopper School and Chuck learned some of the "good stuff" from John.

John was trained at the Harley Davidson factory mechanics program in Milwaukee in 1979 - five years before the Evo engine was even manufactured! Imagine.... John wrenched on Knuckles, Pans & Shovels for 5 years BEFORE the Harley Evolution engine was created!

For 10 years John was a Working Service Manager at Glen Jordan Motorsports Harley Davidson where he supervised 10 other mechanics. John has repaired and rebuilt hundreds of Evolution, Shovel, Pan and Knucklehead engines in the last 30 years. If the mechanics could not fix the engine, John had to step in and do it!

Chuck has completed the engine building and fuel injection classes at S&S Cycle, and his shop is now an S&S Cycle Sidewinder Engine Center.

Chuck was also schooled at an engine building workshop in Detroit hosted by an engineer who works in the Harley Davidson Engine Research and Development Department at the Harley Davidson factory in Milwaukee. This engineer builds engines and runs them to destruction as typical R&D procedure! You talk about technical knowledge. We got it in spades from this mechanic.

Chuck now has a 5,000 square foot commercial shop called Redline Custom Cycle where he builds choppers, sells parts, develops teaching materials, and has the resources to teach hands-on seminars in chopper building, engine building, TIG welding and lathe work.

TIG Welding at Chuck's Shop

Chuck also has 9 years experience as a journeyman oil and gas pipeline welder in Texas and Louisiana at the oil refineries of Shell, Exxon, Arco, Amoco, International Paper - as well as  Hak Pijpleiding in Holland (Europe).

His TIG and stick welding experience with a myriad of applications will help jump-start students with tricks that you don’t learn in welding school. His original training was at Hobart School of Welding in Troy, Ohio. Oh, he did the 4 year college degree thing too. A whole other story.

The “war stories” he has acquired through building custom bikes through the years are what he feels will help students the most – not just bolting a bike together. Even more important is the ability to teach and "simplify" information that other people just seem to have to make so complex when they try and explain it.

Chuck has been wrenching and riding for 30 years. He started riding at 16 with a 2 cylinder 250cc two-stroke kick-start bike that he rode through the entire winter. Talk about oil that was like molassas in the morning! But it still kicked over!

Redline Custom Cycle is a dealer for S&S Cycle, Bikers Choice, Custom Chrome, Midwest Motorcycle Supply, MC Advantages, Wire-Plus, Cycle Electric and others. Through Redline Custom Cycle Chuck offers rock bottom parts discounts to students building bikes.
